Seed Extractor

The Seed Extractor is the building that keeps a farm supplied with seeds. Rather than converting a harvested crop directly back into its own seed, it processes dirt products and outputs seeds. Despite the in-game description, the seed type that comes out is not random, but is based on the type of dirt provided. It is one of the first three farm buildings, unlocked with the very first farming milestone at Tier 2.

How it works

  • The extractor takes a dirt product as its input. Ficsit Farming has three dirt items, any of which is a valid "dirt product":

    Item Made from

    Jar of Dirt

    Mined from a Dirt resource node, or Limestone → Jar of Dirt

    Jar of Peat Soil (fertilised dirt)

    Jar of Dirt + Fertilizer

    Jar of Bog Earth (wet dirt)

    Jar of Dirt + Water

  • While the building is powered and has dirt in its input, it runs and outputs seeds to its output inventory / belt. The output seed variety is based on dirt tpe, so a single extractor gradually supplies a mix of seed types rather than one chosen seed.

  • The extractor will only run when all of the following are true:

    • it is powered;

    • there is a dirt product in its input;

    • there is enough of that dirt product to consume; and

    • there is room in the output for the produced seeds.

Because the output contains multiple seed types, plan for a buffer/sorter on the output if you need a specific seed type.

The same Tier 2 milestone unlocks the Crop Plot, the Farming Platform Mk1, and the base set of seed item unlocks, everything needed to start a first farm.

Tips

  • Feed it dirt, not crops. The extractor’s input is a dirt product; keep a supply of Jar of Dirt (from a Dirt node or from Limestone) flowing into it.

  • Expect a seed mix. Route the seeds through storage or a smart splitter if a plot needs one specific seed type.

  • It is a Tier 2 building and comes online with your first plot, so set up a dirt supply early to keep seeds flowing into the plots.
